When I saw an ED study with “All Better?” in the title, I of course had to read it. Often when a friend or my husband asks me how an appointment was, I say “I’m cured!” Maybe I’ll switch it up with “All better” in the future. Anyway, this was a great article — one that I could write many posts on (and maybe will?). It’s really interesting to hear how patients define recovery and make treatment decisions. It’s also kind of amazing how similar thoughts/behaviors can be …

Recently, my friend and I were discussing the pros/cons of her stepping up the level of care in her treatment. Interestingly, “eating in program” was on both the pro and con list. She thinks it’s easier to eat while in program (as opposed to on your own), but that some of the food sucks and you have to eat things you don’t like (or are not comfortable with).
I can definitely relate to this. When you first start a higher level of care (like IOP, PHP, IP – anything involving a …

This is the sixth post in the Grey Thinking series, Five of the most underrated coping skills.
This isn’t going to come as any surprise to those of you who have followed Grey Thinking for any length of time…. but watching DVDs of TV series is one of my favorite “coping skills.” I may be stretching the idea of a “coping skill” a little bit here, but anything to justify my House marathons…

My explanation is simple: a …

The growing obesity epidemic is nothing new, and I’ve written about government-imposed food restrictions in elementary schools before, but I’m pretty disappointed that the government would charge non-dieting, overweight Americans: State’s Obesity Risk: Lose Weight or Lose Insurance
To summarize this article in a couple of lines:
Alabama is giving its employees roughly a year to start getting in shape or state employees will be charged $25 a month for insurance that would otherwise be free.
Some states offer benefits for healthy living, but Alabama is the first state to punish those not …

My boyfriend works in the ED (Emergency Department).
At work, sometimes I need to purge information (clear out).
There is a lot of terminology used in the eating disorder world, and it’s funny how it still catches me off-guard when similar acronyms / terminology is used in the real world.
BP: Binge/Purge — or a gas station
AN: Anorexia Nervosa — or atomic number (that was always weird to see on paper in chemistry)
BED: Binge Eating Disorder — or Bachelor of Education
OD: Overdose — or overdue
And one of these days …
