I’ve been told more than a couple of times that negative body image is one of the last things to go in eating disorder recovery. Doesn’t that seem unfair? You want to think that you’ll feel better and be more accepting of yourself with the start of treatment, and that will motivate you to eat better and take care of yourself and move on past the disorder. For those of you who watch Celebrity Rehab 2, you’re probably aware of the extra clips on the VH1 website. In case you are not quite as obsessed with the show as I am, there was a clip where Sean talks to Dr. Drew about body image. Dr. Drew ends the conversation with this comment:
“I think the body image stuff is really a reflection of how you feel about yourself, and as that starts to improve I think this will take care of itself.”

This is not going to be an insightful or even remotely academically-based post — nope, just something that’s on my mind today: Positive Self Talk (PST). I have to know… does this actually help anyone? If you are having a lousy body image day and stand in the mirror and tell yourself that you are a beautiful person… do you feel better?
