Was this really necessary?
I just finished reading this article, “My quest for size zero.” While it was interesting, and made some good points–like feeling more insecure at a lower weight (because you’re obsessing over your body), starvation causing depression and insomnia, and losing weight not making you happy–the whole thing seemed absurd to me. I don’t see why it was necessary for this woman to go on such an extreme starvation diet to prove stuff we already know. There have been 100 studies linking starvation with depression, anxiety, fatigue, somatic complaints, etc. I was also annoyed with the “one day I ate less than 250 calories, and one week I didn’t go over 400 a day” comment… as if it were an accomplishment.
Honestly, I don’t know how you could starve yourself for 8 weeks without any psychopathology or previous ED history. I wouldn’t have the willpower. And lastly… she gained all the weight back in a few weeks after the experiment? That’s really an anorexic’s worst nightmare–that eating “normally” will result in dramatic (and rapid) weight gain. Hmm….

I know this post is forever ago… but I feel the need to point out that the UK is way more obsessed with dieting right now. Ive seen like 3 things exactly like this one. One was called super skinny me and it had two journalists trying to get to size 0. And the BBC had the shows I’m a Child Anorexic and I’m a Boy Anorexic.
